Student Trip Safety in Morocco
No trip anywhere is risk-free. What we offer is careful, responsible planning and clear communication with your teachers and group leaders at every stage.
Planning student travel safely in Morocco
Responsible planning from the start
Safety starts with the itinerary itself: realistic distances, sensible daily rhythm, suitable accommodation and activities matched to the group. We review these with the group leader before anything is confirmed.
Custom risk considerations for schools and universities
Many institutions require their own risk assessment. We can share the day-by-day plan, accommodation types, transport arrangements and activity descriptions so your team can complete it. We do not issue formal risk assessments on your behalf.
Student age considerations
Secondary school groups and university groups need different plans. For younger students we keep driving days shorter, limit unsupervised free time and agree room arrangements in line with your institution's policies.
Transport and drivers
Private group transportation
Your group travels only in its own vehicles, sized for your numbers and luggage. You are never mixed with other travelers.
Professional drivers
Drivers know the routes over the Atlas passes and into the desert, follow the agreed schedule and stay in contact with our team throughout the trip.
Realistic daily driving times
Long routes such as Marrakech to Merzouga are split with regular breaks, viewpoints and lunch stops. We avoid night driving on mountain roads wherever possible.
Accommodation and supervision
Accommodation selection
We propose riads, guesthouses, hotels and desert camps that are used to hosting groups, with room layouts discussed in advance so leaders can supervise effectively.
Group-friendly accommodations
Where possible the whole group stays together in one property, with leader rooms close to student rooms.
Group supervision responsibilities
Supervision of students remains the responsibility of the school or university and its group leaders. Our team supports leaders with clear schedules, meeting points and local knowledge.
Communication and emergencies
Group leader communication
Leaders receive a written day-by-day plan and a direct contact on our team before and during the trip. Changes are agreed with the leader, not announced on the day.
Emergency contact procedures
Emergency contacts, nearest medical facilities along the route and how to reach our team are shared and agreed with the group leader before departure.
Meeting points and headcounts
Clear meeting points and times are set at every stop. Leaders keep the group list and headcounts; drivers and guides help keep the group together in busy medinas.
Desert, outdoor and activity safety
Desert and Sahara safety
Desert nights in Merzouga are spent at established camps we know. Students are briefed on staying with the group in the dunes, especially after dark.
Camel and desert activity considerations
Camel treks are short and led by experienced cameleers. Anyone who prefers not to ride can go by 4x4 to the camp. Sandboarding and dune walks are optional.
Hiking and outdoor activity planning
Atlas walks are chosen for the group's fitness and age, led by local guides, and adjusted for weather. No one is required to take part.
Heat and hydration
In warmer months we plan outdoor activities for early morning and late afternoon, build in shade breaks and remind students to carry water and sun protection.
Health, diet and insurance
Dietary requirements and allergies
We collect dietary needs and allergies in advance and pass them to accommodation and camps. Severe allergies should be discussed with us directly so we can explain what is realistic in each location.
Medical preparation
Participants should travel with any personal medication and copies of prescriptions. Medical information is held by the school or group organizer; we only need what is relevant to planning.
Travel insurance recommendation
Insurance is not included. We strongly recommend every student and leader has travel and medical insurance suitable for the activities planned.

FAQ
Frequently asked safety questions
Is Morocco safe for student groups?
Many school and university groups travel to Morocco every year. As anywhere, safety depends on planning: private transport, suitable accommodation, sensible pacing and clear supervision. Group leaders should also check their own government's current travel advice before departure.
Who supervises the students?
The school or university group leaders supervise students. Our drivers, guides and team support leaders with logistics, local knowledge and communication.
Do students have to ride camels or hike?
No. All physical activities are optional and alternatives, such as a 4x4 transfer to the desert camp, can be arranged.
Can you complete our risk assessment?
We can provide the information you need — itinerary, accommodation, transport and activity details — but the formal risk assessment is completed by your institution.
What happens if someone gets ill during the trip?
Group leaders contact our team, who will help arrange transport to the nearest appropriate medical facility. Costs of treatment are covered by the participant's travel insurance, not by us.
Is travel insurance included?
No. Every participant and leader should have suitable travel and medical insurance arranged before departure.
Leaders should follow their institution's travel policies and check current government travel advice for Morocco. For practical preparation see the student packing list, the cultural etiquette guide, our Sahara student trips and our booking conditions.
